Angel Island, off the coast of San Francisco, was known as the Ellis Island of the West Coast. Primarily serving immigrants from Asia, it has a much different history than Ellis Island. Using photographs and primary sources, Russell Freedman describes the harsh and discriminatory immigration laws and experiences awaiting people arriving from the west. Recommended for grades 4 & up.
