Grades 4 & up
Arianne is growing up on a horse farm in the mid-60s with her mother and her younger brother, Robbie. Her rockstar father left them after Robbie was born with severe birth defects due to thalidomide use during her mother’s pregnancy. They are barely getting along until their old pony gives birth to a Centaur. As they struggle to keep this a secret from the rest of the world, they explore what it truly means to be human. Eventually they find a way to incorporate Kai (who speaks both horse and human) into the development of a riding program for disabled children. Recommended for horse lovers, grades 4-8.
